Millburn High Student Designs New Drug Drop-Off Box
High School senior Lily Blum painted the prescription box at the Millburn Police Station for people to safely dispose unused, unwanted or expired medicine.
The Millburn Police Station opened a prescription drop-off box with a little help from a high school senior last week.
The drop-off box is part of the American Medicine Chest Challenge, a national public health campaign designed at raising awareness of the issue of prescription drug abuse and safe disposal of unused, unwanted or expired medicine at any time.
It was painted by Millburn High School student Lily Blum as part of her AP art class.

"It was so much fun," she said. "I was so lucky to have the opportunity beacuse I learned so much from [painting] it."
The first prescription drop-off box was set up six years ago in the Drugfree New Jersey Office in Millburn the executive director of a Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey Angelo Valente said.

"It started right here in Millburn and its coming back home," he said.
Valente added, “We are so pleased to be cooperating with the Millburn Police in this important public safety and health endeavor.”
The Millburn Township Public School District, Millburn Municipal Alliance Committee, and the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team (ADAPT): The Essex Coalition also helped coordinate.
