Millburn Reminds Residents Of Shoveling Rules; See Snow Totals

A two-day "long duration snowfall" was expected to continue in Millburn into Friday. See updates and predictions here.

MILLBURN, NJ — The township of Millburn issued guidance on Thursday regarding what the National Weather Service had called a "long duration snowfall" lasting into Friday afternoon.

The township reminded residents that snow must be cleared from sidewalks within eight hours of daylight after the storm ends. They also gave safety information and updates on which town buildings would be closed. They said recycling would continue on schedule. Read more here.

For Essex County, the totals included:

  • Newark Airport 3.5 inches
  • Cedar Grove 3.3 inches
  • South Orange 1.6 inches

The National Weather Service prediction for Millburn and surrounding areas for Friday said:

  • Thursday overnight: Periods of snow and sleet, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle, becoming all snow after midnight. Low around 26. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Friday: Periods of light snow, mainly before 3pm. High near 33. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of light snow before 1 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 24. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
