Millburn School Board Seeks Applications For Vacancy By Friday
A Millburn Board of Education member is leaving the state. Also, others can run for the school board in November.
MILLBURN, NJ — A Millburn Board of Education member is moving out of the state, and the board is looking for applicants for the position by this Friday.
Additionally, those seeking to run for a spot in November must submit signed petitions to the Essex County Clerk by July 26.
Regarding the vacant position, interested parties must apply this week and then can make a 3-minute statement at the June 24 board meeting.

Board member Carolyn Updyke is moving out of town, said a spokesperson for the schools.
The district said, "The board, within the powers delegated to it by law, is the policy-making legislative branch of the Millburn School District. The individual selected will serve as a member of the Board of Education from the date of appointment through December 31, 2021."

Interested individuals must be:
- A citizen of the United States of America
- At least 18 years of age
- Able to read and write
- A resident of Millburn Township for at least (1) year preceding the date of
- appointment
- Not directly/indirectly interested in a contract with, or a claim against, the Board
- Registered to vote in the District
- Not disqualified as a voter pursuant to NJSA 19:4-1
The successful candidate will need to undergo a criminal history background check upon appointment.
Any qualified Millburn resident interested in serving the children of our school district should submit a letter of interest and resume to:

Letters of application will be accepted through Friday, June 18, until 4 p.m.
The Board of Education will review all qualifying applicants.
Candidates will be offered the opportunity to make a 3-minute public statement for the Board of Education retreat meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 24 at 7 p.m.
The board anticipates making the appointment at the June 24 meeting.
