Millburn Scout Wants More Area Volunteers To Get Recognition
As an Eagle Scout project, Riya Tyagi made it easier to nominate volunteers using an online system. She'd also like more youths recognized.
MILLBURN, NJ — Residents and nonresidents of Millburn alike, who volunteer within the township, are invited to participate in a new Community Service Award Committee opportunity. Residents who are aware of someone who has done extraordinary service for the community can now propose that candidate online to receive the township's annual community service award.
This past fall, Scouts BSA Troop 19 Eagle Scout candidate Riya Tyagi partnered with the Millburn Township Community Service Award Committee (CSAC) to introduce to automate the nomination and selection process for the service awards, and also to add a new youth volunteer service award.

For 30 years, the township recognized Millburn residents who have significantly contributed to the community. Tyagi's project vision was to expand the award to recognize deserving youth and adults and to encourage diverse and inclusive nominations.
Community service awards are presented annually by the CSAC, which aims to "recognize members of the community who have generously given their time and who, through their volunteer activities, have enhanced the quality of life in the Township of Millburn and the community at large."
