Millburn Student-Athlete Races His Way To Wendy's High School Heisman Award

Millburn's Matt Grossman is one of the last people in town you want to challenge to a race.

MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn’s Matt Grossman is one of the last people in town you want to challenge to a race.

Grossman recently earned a Wendy's High School Heisman Award, a national recognition which is presented to one male and one female student-athlete in each state for their athletic and academic achievements.

The award was created by Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas in 1994.

The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored Grossman during a June 21 ceremony at the Caldwell Town Hall.

According to a freeholder news release:

“In 2017, Matt was named the following: outdoor Group 4 Champion (3200m); Indoor All-American in 5k; Indoor and Outdoor Sectional Champion (3200m); and Outdoor County Champion (3200m).

“In 2016, he received the following titles: winner of the Outdoor Meet of Champions (3200m); Outdoor Group Champion (3200m); Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Sectional Champion; Cross Country and Outdoor County Champion; Cross Country Footlocker Nationals Qualifier; and Outdoor All-American in 5k.

“In 2015, Matt also was named the following: Cross Country Group, Sectional, and County Champion; Cross Country Footlocker Nationals Qualifier; Outdoor and Indoor Track Sectional Champion; and Indoor County Champion.

“While at Millburn High School, he received a varsity letter in all 3 seasons of running for all 4 years of high school. He will be continuing his running career at Princeton University in the Fall of 2017.

“He is the son of Paul Grossman, attorney at Friedman and Wittenstein, and Alysse McLoughlin, attorney at McDermott, Will, and Emery. He also has a younger sister and two younger brothers who attend schools in Millburn.”
