Millburn Student Earns 2nd Place in Annual Chinese Speech Contest
High School junior Sylvia Levy competes in the eighth annual "Chinese Bridge" U.S. High School Student Speech Contest.

A Millburn High School junior Advanced Placement (AP) Chinese student took second place in this year's "Chinese Bridge" speech competition out of 50 students from across the county earlier in the month.Â
Sylvia Levy won second at the eighth annual U.S. High School Student Speech Contest with the theme "Chinese... Anytime, Anywhere!" at the Confucius Institute at the University of Massachusetts Boston on April 7.
“This is an outstanding achievement for Sylvia who worked diligently with her teacher, Mrs. Hui Mei King, in preparing for this contest," Abigail Crespo, World Languages Department chair said.

Students were free to develop the content based on their own language learning and life experiences. The required speech time was four minutes or less in length, then four or five questions based on the delivered content were asked immediately following the speech.Â
There were three contest categories:

- Beginner Group for students who have learned Chinese for less than two yearsÂ
- Intermediate Group for students who have learned Chinese for less than four years
- Advanced Group for students who have learned Chinese for more than four years.
The "Chinese Bridge" Competition aims to arouse the enthusiasm of students in various countries in learning Chinese and strengthen the world's understanding of Chinese language and culture.
The competition has become an important platform for students of various countries to learn Chinese and learn about China. It builds a communication bridge between young people of China and other countries.
