Police Blotter: Crimes at the Mall; DWI Accident

Police investigate vehicle burglaries and shoplifting cases at the mall; charge Short Hills man with DWI.

In addition to four , the following is a roundup of the major activities investigated by the Millburn Police Department in the last week.

  • Vehicle Burglary: On Dec. 5, a woman reported that she had parked her 2008 Ford Mustang at level 4 Macy’s Deck at The Mall at Short Hills and found her vehicle’s lock was tampered with; there was no apparent entry into the vehicle.
  • Shoplifting: On Dec. 5, a woman reported that on Dec. 2, someone entered Restoration Hardware at The Mall at Short Hills and stole $9,168 in various items including throw rugs and $99 cashmere slippers.
  • Shoplifting: On Dec. 6 at 2:58 p.m., loss prevention personnel from Neiman Marcus at The Mall at Short Hills pursued two individuals for allegedly leaving the store with miscellaneous clothing, including $319 for four pair of True Religion Jean and a $270 Gucci Scarf.  Millburn Police Department a 16-year-old juvenile  and 21-year-old Jamile Harris both of Brooklyn, New York.  The juvenile was processed and released to his brother.  Harris was charged with shoplifting and released pending his court hearing. 
  • Vehicle burglary: On Dec. 6, a woman reported that she parked her rented 2011 Dodge in the parking deck of The Mall at Short Hills.  Someone entered the vehicle by breaking a window and removing $1,489 in miscellaneous purchases from the mall.
  • Vehicle burglary: On Dec. 6, a woman reported that she parked her 2011 Denali at Bloomingdale’s parking deck between 8 and 9 p.m. when someone burglarized her vehicle and took sneakers, a gym bag and various paperwork.  Entry was gained by prying a driver’s side lock. 
  • Shoplifting: On Dec. 8, the Millburn Police Department responded to Neiman Marcus at The Mall at Short Hills, where loss prevention personnel had in custody a 16-year-old female juvenile from Maplewood.  The actor allegedly attempted to conceal and leave the store with a pair of True Religion Jeans.  The youth was transported to the Millburn Police Department, processed and turned over to her parents.
  • Shoplifting: On Dec. 8, The Millburn Police Department responded to Abercrombie and Fitch at the Mall at Short Hills on a report of a theft by an employee.  An internal investigation revealed that one of the store employees that had allegedly completed multiple thefts over $685 between September and this date. Crystal Pascoal of Elizabeth, N.J, was arrested and charged with several counts of shoplifting and released pending her court hearing.
  • Shoplifting: On Dec. 11 at 3:49 p.m., Millburn Police responded to Victoria's Secret  at The Mall at Short Hills on a report of a shoplifting.  An investigation found two females had entered the store, removed several items and then “returned” the items.  An unknowing store employee gave the women store credit and a gift card. The women left the store and were later observed by mall security, who detained same.  Both women, one a juvenile from Newark and Ajuka Nelson also of Newark were arrested.  Both women were processed and Nelson released pending her court hearing.  The juvenile was turned over to her parents.
  • DWI: On Dec. 8:26 PM the Millburn Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at Hillside Avenue and Delwick Lane in Short Hills, where police found a Volkswagen with heavy frontend damage and had collided with a tree. Further investigation resulted in the driver, Kevin Abramson of Short Hills, being arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and careless driving.
