Scouts Tackle 12-mile Canoe Trip

20-mph headwind turns five hour paddle trip into six hours.

Fourteen Boy Scouts from Troop 17 completed a grueling 12-mile canoe course between Milford, Penn. and Dingman's Ferry this weekend.

The weather was warm and sunny, but the river was low due to the lack of rain and snow this winter, and Mother Nature didn't make the trip any easier, hitting the Scouts with a 20-mph headwind to paddle into.

Thanks to that wind the normally 5-hour trip took almost an hour longer, but all 14 boys worked through the challenging conditions and made it safely to the finish, the scout masters reported.
