Shelves Empty, Stores Pledge to Restock

PathMark is out of bottled water; ShopRite issues statement about restocking; Bunchers' Hardware is stocked up on flashlights and batteries.

Harried shoppers are flocking to the stores on Saturday.

From PathMark, where the shelves normally filled with bottled water were empty at midday, to the Valley Street Dollar General, where flashlights were going fast, residents are preparing for Sandy. PathMark shoppers also found canned goods in shorter supply than usual. (See photos.)

ShopRite earlier on Saturday issued a statement saying the stores will restock basic supplies as long as possible.

Millburn township has also reached out on Friday for extra bottled water if that becomes an issue during the storm. According to Business Administrator Tim Gordon, the township already has two palettes stocked up.
