Millburn-Based Professor Talks About Asian Stereotypes
The professor talked about her experiences growing up in North Jersey in light of the anti-Asian bias crimes in the country.
MILLBURN, NJ — A Millburn resident and psychology professor spoke about Asian stereotypes Monday in a story in the Record of Hackensack, amid a documented rise in anti-Asian hate crimes in the U.S.
A report released earlier this month by the Center for the Study of Hate & Extremism at California State University showed incidents of hate and bias crime were up 149 percent against Asian Americans in 2020, compared to in previous years (the report is here).

Essex County leaders issued statements last week condemning the murders of eight women in Atlanta, including six Asian-American women.
In the Record story, Psychology Prof Lisa Son talked about her experience with Asian stereotypes growing up. That story is here. Son also wrote an op-ed earlier this month, "If We Want To Stop Anti-Asian Hate, We Can't Sit This One Out," in which she wrote: "The pandemic has simply made visible what had been largely invisible, though skepticism remains...."
