Reality Check: Looking at Climate Change Solutions

Millburn Green Team hosts The Climate Reality Project at the library on Thursday.

Last Saturday, temperatures reached well into the 60s. And there's been no snow since the in October. So far, this winter has been unseasonably mild, serving as a reminder about climate change, as was the extreme and volatile weather around the globe in 2011, say scientists who are working toward solutions.

In an effort to learn more about climate change and what can be done about it, Millburn's Green Team will host a presentation on Thursday regarding ways in which individuals can help solve the problem.

Millburn has long been at the forefront on , starting a , hosting a Green Challenge Day and earning a certification in the program.

On Thursday this week, to kick off 2012, the Green Team of Millburn will host The Climate Reality Project at the Millburn Library with a presentation by Greg Mattison, a specialist trained by former Vice President Al Gore, who founded the project.

The Climate Reality Project now has more than 5 million members and supporters worldwide, and according to its website, it is “guided by one simple truth: The climate crisis is real and we know how to solve it.”

Mattison has made presentations throughout New Jersey as well as at the United Nations Headquarters for the 60th NGO Conference on Climate Change.

Mattison, a multi-media specialist at William Patterson University, has also produced two award winning TV series and a radio show about climate solutions.

Millburn’s Green Team encourages residents to come out and learn about solutions to climate change and bring with them all kinds of plastic bags for recycling including shopping, dry cleaning, bread bags, produce bags, sealable storage bags and plastic packaging wrap for items like toilet tissue, diapers, cases of water or sodas and cereal box liners.

The Climate Reality Project presentation will begin at 7 p.m. at the Millburn Library.
