MILLBURN, NJ — Even with businesses taking precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic, people have not stopped coming in and shoplifting high-end items, if the last two weeks of police reports are an indication.

The Millburn police said that they responded to the Burberry store at The Mall at Short Hills on Thursday on a report of a theft.

Associates reported that a woman selected a white Burberry purse, concealed it, and left the store. The purse is valued at $2,450. Police are investigating.

Two days later, on Saturday, police were called back to Burberry again on another suspected theft.

Burberry workers said a 5-foot-5-inch woman wearing a tan jacket and jeans selected a Burberry hat and concealed it, according to police. "The female then left the store without making payment."

The hat was valued at $1,090, police said.

Gucci was not spared either. Police said that they responded to the mall on Sept. 15 on a report of a theft. Gucci associates reported that two women picked out two handbags, put them in another bag, and left the store without paying. The value together was $2,080.

As with the others, the incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
