4 of 6 Montclair Pop Warner Bulldogs Teams Finish Season in First Place

The teams battled it out with the Jackie Robinson Bears of Newark last weekend.

Many of the Montclair Recreation/Pop Warner Bulldogs finished up their season at the top of the pack.

The final week of the flag-football regular season took place Sunday, with four of six of the Bulldogs teams finishing in first place. Montclair was 3-3 against the Jackie Robinson Bears of Newark last weekend.

The Blue and White flag football teams, with players ranging from ages 5 to 7, split their games against the Bears. The White team suffered a loss of 14-0 while the Blue team defeated its opponent 28-0.

Both teams are closing out their seasons at the North Jersey Pop Warner Flag-a-thon, an all-day event that celebrates the season, awards notable players with medals and features rides for kids.

The Mighty Mites, ages 7 to 9, suffered an 18-12 defeat at the hands of the Bears. The Bears dashed the team’s hopes during its last possession of the game with a crushing defense.

The Mites will close its season Oct. 25 at the NJPW Pumpkin Bowl, another all-day fest where teams will participate in a match-up contest. Rides and food will be provided.

The Jr Pee Wees, that went 8-0, clinched the division title in a 14-0 win against the Bears. The Montclair Pee Wees, ages 10-12, finished 7-1 to also take first place in its division.

The Midgets, ages 12 to 14, suffered a defeat of 20-13 following a game rife with mishaps. Despite the loss, the Midgets also took its division title.

Playoffs for both the Jr. Pee Wees, Pee Wees and the Midgets will take place Oct. 25 and 26 with the schedule yet to be announced. The teams will be playing for a bid in the NJPW title Nov. 1 and the opportunity to move on to regionals and win a trip to Orlando for the Pop Warner National Championships.
