4 UFO Sightings In Essex County Were Among 138 Reported In NJ
One person wrote: "I was looking at the sky and saw a white thing whizz by, too close to the ground for a meteor, followed by two more."
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — There continues to be no shortage of unidentified flying object sightings in New Jersey – and that includes Essex County.
According to the National UFO Reporting Center, it saw 138 reports in New Jersey last year, with four of those coming from Essex County. See a full list of 2020’s UFO reports in New Jersey.

LIVINGSTON
- Sept. 4 at 11 p.m. - "I was looking at the sky and saw a white thing whizz by, too close to the ground for a meteor, followed by two more."
NEWARK

- Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. - "Clear blue sky, no clouds, star-like silver object fading in and out, visible for one minute or two then disappeared."
NUTLEY
- Aug. 8 at 9:45 p.m. - "As I was viewing the planet Jupiter at night with a high-power binocular (25x100), a bright, cigar-shaped object shot upwards very quickly to the left of Jupiter."
In the recent past, other local UFO sightings have included “two unusual crafts, fully lit and flying erratic, followed by sustained stillness” in Verona in 2019.
A Belleville resident reached out to Patch in 2016, offering a video that captured what he termed "UFOs" flying over the township and heading towards New York City.
There were four objects in total, including two that "were in a formation," he said.
"My family and my neighbor saw them," the local skywatcher claimed. "They just vanished after going northeast. I have no clue what they were, but they weren't planes or balloons. They were silent, changing color and moving fast."
