A Cool Ice Cream on a Hot Day
Ice cream shops are doing a brisk business and offering deals.
Is there anything better than a cool ice cream on a hot day? Not according to those working at Montclair's ice cream shops.
Applegate Farm Ice Cream on Grove Street said customers were clamoring for Mint Chocolate Chip, a mint flavored ice cream with chunks of milk chocolate, more than anything else on Tuesday afternoon. But running a close second were the small root beer floats that are on special at the moment. During the month of July, Applegate is offering them for only $1.73 each every day from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Cold Stone Creamery on Bellevue Avenue said it's hot flavors on Tuesday were its newest ones -- blueberry, key lime, and harvest peach. The shop boasts no ice cream deals at the moment but it does have a special on pies. For only $12.99 you can have a "Blueberry Cream Pie," "A Key Lime Sunshine Pie," or "A Sweet As A Peach Pie."

Kings on Valley Road said its customers exuded a more ho-hum attitude, purchasing more boxes of plain vanilla, as well as tried-and-true ice cream sandwiches, than anything else.
So why does your ice cream melt in the heat? The answer is heat conduction - or when the heat from the air is automatically lured to the much colder ice cream. Try it yourself. See how long a scoop will last in this weather. Not long!
