Apartments In Montclair’s Arts District Set To Lease In Spring
The Two South Willow building includes 200 apartments, a rooftop deck and 38,000 square feet of street-level retail and arts space.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — An apartment building located in the heart of Montclair’s new “arts district” is set to open for leasing in the spring, developers say.
Joint venture partners Ironstate Development Company and Brookfield Properties recently announced they are nearing completion of Two South Willow on Bloomfield Avenue in downtown Montclair.
It’s expected to open for leasing in the spring of 2021. Interested renters can add their names to a wait list.

The building is a component of a larger mixed-use development project in the area. Part of the town's Seymour Street Redevelopment Plan, the $135 million private development project will straddle Seymour Street and complete the block alongside the Wellmont Theater.

“The new collection of 200 rental residences will feature studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments with open layouts and modern finishes, all complemented by an exciting array of lifestyle amenities highlighted by a roof deck with Manhattan skyline views. The six-story building will also include 38,000 square feet of street-level retail and arts space as part of an ongoing effort to create a vibrant arts district anchored by the adjacent Wellmont Theater.”
That’s not all, developers say:
“Designed by Marchetto Higgins Stieve and Minno Wasko, with interiors by Kara Mann Design, Two South Willow respects the historic architecture and brickwork of adjacent buildings, such as the Wellmont Theater. Inside, apartments feature bright and open living spaces, modern kitchens, walk-in closets, and balconies. Shared social spaces include a fitness center with Peloton bikes, rooftop study with a fireplace, and a roof deck with fire pits, BBQ grills, and a shuffleboard court. The building also offers keyless entry access and onsite, covered parking.”
The surrounding neighborhood will also be part of the allure, developers added:
“Just outside the door lies a burgeoning arts destination, with a portion of Seymour Street being converted into a pedestrian-only space to create the Wellmont Arts Plaza. It will include extensive landscaping, outdoor seating, and multiple art installations, as well as space to host open-air performances and other events, creating a vibrant gathering place throughout the year.”
An initial round of applications for 20 units of affordable housing at the building ended in February.

“Montclair is a destination for people who enjoy its unique blend of shopping, dining, and cultural attractions, and it is consistently rated one of New Jersey’s most desirable places to live,” said David Barry, CEO of the Hoboken-based Ironstate Development Company.
“The opening of Two South Willow will bolster that reputation by adding a new modern living option to an area of town that will soon be pulsing with activity, culture and convenience,” Barry said.
