"Art of Doodles" Artist Joins Montclair Gallery Show

Studio Montclair/Virginia S. Block Gallery will present "The Language of Line."

Studio Montclair/Virginia S. Block Gallery will present “The Language of Line,” an art show featuring 19 artists who illustrate the unlimited ways artists use ‘line’ as the basis for their creations. Included in the gallery show are two drawings by doodle artist John Rosica of Bergen County.

Studio Montclair/Virginia S. Block Gallery’s “Linear Vernacular: The Language of Line” is on view from Sept. 14 to Dec. 18, 2012, at the Virginia S. Block Gallery in the Academy Square building (33 Plymouth St., Montclair). The gallery is open to the public 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. A reception will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sept. 14.

Rosica, former music business executive and public relations agency owner, has embarked upon his third career. Rosica has been drawing doodles for four decades, while attending meetings, on the phone and watching TV. Then, in 2011 he was encouraged by two artist friends to enlarge (5 or 6 times their original size) and frame many of his drawings.  Each is limited to 20 numbered and signed copies.

According to CopperWiki.org, doodling allows a person’s subconscious to work and the brain to concentrate. And, since much of our creative expression is birthed in the subconscious mind, Rosica has created a workshop for children and adults, which helps connect participants with their creativity—using doodling to manifest the process.
