Bike&Walk Montclair To Hold Fall Picnic Bike-In

The event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23 in Edgemont Park.

Bike&Walk Montclair plans to hold its first Fall Picnic Bike-In on Sunday, Sept. 23 from noon to 3 p.m. by the Edgemont Park House in Montclair just off Valley Road.

This event is designed as a fun get-together for everyone who likes being outdoors, sharing food with friends and neighbors, and enjoying local musicians playing in the spirit of community. Grab a picnic blanket, lace up your sneakers, slap on a backpack or saddle up your bike and head over to Montclair's beautiful Edgemont memorial park!

Music will be provided by Big Mamou (foot-stomping zydeco), the Passing Notes (Montclair High School's a capella group), Bob Mellman and the Michael Reitman Band (original and traditional blues).

BWM President Laura Torchio says "it'll be a great way to start the school year with a celebration that reminds everyone how much fun it is to have a block party with your neighbors."

This is a potluck event, with tables set up so everyone can share their food together. Co-sponsors include Serendipity Cafe, Terra Tea Salon, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, and Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless.

Bike&Walk Montclair’s goal is to to help make Montclair safer and more appealing for people who walk or bike and to improve options for bicycling and walking. Since 2002, Bike&Walk Montclair has held town-wide promotional events, advocated for safer streets and to improve options for biking and walking, has facilitated the development of a Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan, trained kids and adults on smart cycling, and helped make Montclair become one of the state's leaders in bicycle-friendliness and walkability.

The Picnic Bike-In is a new event to meet and greet others who love outdoor activities and want to make your community and even better place for walking and biking.

Participants under the age of 16 must wear helmets if they're biking (it's the law) and we encourage bikers over the age of 16 to wear helmets as well.
