Brewery In Essex County Offers Free Beer After 1st COVID Vaccine

A brewery in Essex County is joining several others in New Jersey for the "shot and a beer" vaccine campaign.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Any New Jersey resident over 21 who gets their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine this month can get a free beer at several local breweries, including one in Essex County, officials announced Monday.

The Magnify Brewing Company in Fairfield is among the local watering holes taking part in the “shot and a beer” campaign, a state-led effort to ramp up vaccination efforts in New Jersey.

Gov. Phil Murphy touted the campaign during a news conference on Monday.

“Any New Jerseyan who gets their first vaccine dose in the month of May and takes their vaccination card to a participating brewery will receive a free beer,” Murphy tweeted.

About 31 percent of the total U.S. population have been fully vaccinated, according to NPR's vaccine tracker, or about 104 million people. In New Jersey, 51 percent or 4.6 million, of the state has received at least one dose, and 33 percent or 2.9 million, been fully vaccinated.
