Could Pool Hours Be Extended?

At Tuesday night's Town Council meeting, Councilor Cary Africk said he and others are looking at extending pool hours by an hour or two hours to accommodate those people who get off the train, only to find the pool closed. He said that, in this hot weather, it would be good to extend the hours, if financially feasible.

Summer heat waves like the one this week can be dangerous. One of the best ways to prevent heat-related illnesses, such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion, is to cool off in a swimming pool. When you are immersed in water it takes heat from your body 25 times faster than in air.

Montclair's three pools are open seven days a week the following hours:

Pool Hours:  Monday - Friday 1PM - 7PM  Weekends - 11AM - 8PM*
*Starting August 25th - pools close at 7 PM due to earlier sunset time.
