Tai Chi in Van Vleck Gardens

• Join Miriam Moran Shankman for Tai Chi in the beautiful gardens of Van Vleck. Tai Chi is a centuries-old internal Chinese martial art practiced in a meditative, slow, gentle and graceful sequence of movements that has been shown to enhance health, relaxation and self-cultivation. Tai Chi may be adapted to suit nearly anyone, regardless of physical condition. Session runs through December 16. 9:30 - 10:30 am, 21 Van Vleck St., Montclair. Natural Decorating Demonstration

• Fee: $12 ($10 Friends) Others Time: 10:00-11:00 AM
• Bring nature indoors for the holidays. Plants provide us with a wide variety of beautiful pods, seeds, leaves, branches and berries. Join Van Vleck’s Garden Manager Laura Roberts as she demonstrates many simple holiday decorations that can be created from natural materials. Demonstration will last about 45minutes, followed by a trip to the Van Vleck House where tea and cookies will be served in the living room which is decorated for the season. Garden Discoveries: Birds in the Winter (ages 3 to 5, accompanied by parent/caregiver)

• Fee: $10 ($7 Friends)
• Garden Discoveries classes inspire children about the natural world around them. Since each child learns in a different way, every class examines one topic through stories, outdoor exploration, and hands-on activities and specimens. 1 - 2 pm, Van Vleck House & Gardens, 21 Van Vleck St., Montclair. Gingerbread Creations

• From our House to Yours. Decorate your very own Gingerbread House. All sweet materials will be provided. It’s a wonderful way to bring Holiday Cheer to your home. Open to children ages 8 and up. Pine Cone Wreath

• Laura Roberts, Garden Manager of Van Vleck House & Gardens will guide you through creating your own wreath made from pine cones. Add a splash of color with a ribbon or other natural items collected from the gardens of Van Vleck. Leave the mess and supplies to us, and bring home a unique creation that will add natural beauty to any home. Autumn Garden Tour

Tours will focus on plants of interest each month, including fabulous blooms and foliage as well as seeds, fruits and bark which will catch your eye in the fall garden.
