End Of Summer Means Start Of Construction Projects

There is lots to be aware of this week, including sewer improvement projects and road closures.

August may be a quiet month for some — but apparently not for construction workers. Indeed, there are plenty of projects going on around town that you need to be aware of.

Here's a list of what's happening. For more information on any of these projects go here.

— PSE&G will begin trimming trees near power lines on Monday, August 30. Tree trimming work is being done in an attempt to reduce outages during storms by removing branches which could take down power lines. Crews will be working in rear yards in the area of the following streets: Oakwood Avenue, Inwood Avenue, Fernwood Avenue, Norman Road, Glenwood Road and Marion Road.

— Llewellyn Road between Elm Street and Harrison Avenue and Orange Road between Llewellyn Road and Warren Place will be closed for a portion of the day on Monday, August 30, for milling work. The same closures will take place on or about Friday, September 1, for paving, weather permitting. Dates are tentative. An update will be posted on the Montclair Township Web site should information change.

— Montclair State University on-campus sewer improvement work will begin Tuesday, August 31, on the north side of Normal Avenue, from Carlisle Road to College Avenue. Construction work is expected to continue for approximately one week and will be conducted in the roadway just outside the curbs.

— Contractor Cifelli and Son General Construction commenced work on the Quiet Zone roadway improvements on or around August 24. Work began with Upper Mountain Avenue re-alignment at Laurel Place. Laurel Place will be closed to traffic from Thursday, August 26 through Friday September 10, in order to allow the contractor and New Jersey Transit to reposition crossing gates for the one-way street configuration. Though closed to vehicles, Laurel Place will remain open to pedestrians. On or around August 30 through September 7, the contractor will be constructing raised medians at the Normal Avenue grade crossing. Normal Avenue will remain open, but with intermittent delays in traffic flow which may be affected by the movement of construction equipment.

— Mt. Hebron Road will see raised medians constructed in the second week of September, while the Bellevue Avenue and Grove Street grade crossings will have minor curb and sidewalk work done on or around the third week of September. Raised median construction work on the Glenridge Avenue grade crossing will also be performed in the third week of September. In addition to construction work, each enhanced grade crossing will have new street striping done and signage erected. Please note: the above schedule is subject to change.
