MONTCLAIR, NJ — Cases of COVID-19 continue to drop across the country, while the number of those who are fully vaccinated continues to rise, which means there is even more reason to celebrate this Independence Day. July 4 is almost here, so it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you.

Here's what's in store this July 4 in Montclair (see your local events calendar).
For the second year in a row, Montclair's annual celebration has been canceled, town officials recently announced. Montclair was among the wave of New Jersey municipalities that put the kibosh on their annual Independence Day celebrations last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was the first time in more than 100 years that the town's annual 4th of July celebration was cancelled.

All planned public activities related to the holiday are part of the 2021 cancellation, including the parade, fireworks and the community picnic at Edgemont Memorial Park, officials said. Read More: Montclair Cancels July 4th Celebration For Second Year In A Row
However, Essex County plans to hold three separate “fireworks spectaculars” as part of its annual summer concert series – including a show in Brookdale Park. Read More: Free Summer Concerts, Fireworks Return To Essex County In 2021
The dates and performers include:
- "Smooth" on Wednesday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Weequahic Park in Newark. *NOTE: This event has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Aug. 11 due to weather.
- "The Infernos" on Thursday, July 1 at 7:30 p.m in Brookdale Park in Bloomfield/Montclair. *NOTE: This event has been rescheduled to Friday, July 9 due to weather.
- "The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra" on Thursday, Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m in Branch Brook Park in Newark
The following towns in Essex County have also announced that they’re holding Independence Day fireworks celebrations for 2021:
- EAST ORANGE - East Orange will hold a "Independence Day Spectacular" including a fireworks show on Saturday, July 3 (learn more here).
- MILLBURN – Millburn will host a fireworks event at the Millburn High School football field on Sunday, July 4 (learn more here).
- WEST ESSEX- The towns of Caldwell, North Caldwell, West Caldwell, Roseland and Essex Fells will hold a fireworks celebration on Sunday, July 4 at the James Caldwell High School baseball field in West Caldwell (learn more).
- WEST ORANGE - West Orange will celebrate Independence Day on Sunday, July 4 with events at West Orange High School, including a food truck festival and fireworks (learn more).
