Hoboken Developer To Build Mixed-Use Complex In Montclair
Kensington Senior Living sold 65 Church Street in Montclair to Hoboken-based Bijou Properties. Here's what's coming next for the site.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Hoboken-based firm has purchased a property on Church Street in downtown Montclair, with plans to build a five-story, mixed use complex.
On Monday, real estate firm JLL announced the sale of 65 Church Street in Montclair. The seller, Kensington Senior Living, previously planned to bring an assisted living facility to the location. However, real estate developer Dick Grabowski filed suit against the township to stop the plans, claiming that ex-mayor Jerry Fried and former councilman Nick Lewis had conflicts of interest when they voted on an ordinance that paved the way for the proposed facility.

The new owner of the site, Hoboken-based Bijou Properties, intends to construct a “best-in-class, boutique mixed-use property with ground-floor retail and up to five stories of residential space above,” according to a news release from JLL.

The 0.832-acre property is located within the Hahnes Redevelopment Zone in Montclair, JLL stated.
“We had a great response to the offering, given it’s a multi-housing development in Montclair,” Jose Cruz of JLL said. “The investors were driven by the strong demographics in town.”
