Montclair Resident Found After Missing For More Than A Month
Adam Erik Batkay, 39, had been missing since around July 31.
Adam Erik Batkay, a lifelong resident of Montclair and a graduate of both Montclair High School — in 1989 — and Montclair State University, had not been seen for at least a month, said his mother, Viiu Lawyer. But she confirmed Friday that he has just been found in a hospital in Queens. No further details have been provided.
Batkay's father is William Batkay, a Montclair resident and a professor at Montclair State University in the Political Science and Law Department.
Montclair Police had put out the following statement on Thursday: "Police are attempting to locate Adam Batkay, a missing person who was last seen by his family on July 31, 2010. Mr. Batkay is a white male, thirty-nine years old, approximately 5'11"-6'1", 180 -200 lbs. He may have a goatee and wears an earring in his left ear. He is known to frequent the areas of Bloomfield Center and Newark. Police have learned that, in the last three weeks, Mr. Batkay has also been in Irvington and East Orange. Mr. Batkay is believed to have been seen outside convenience stores and coffee houses in Bloomfield asking passersby for cigarettes and/or money. Mr. Batkay may also frequent computer and comic book stores in the area. Viiu Lawyer said her son is 6 feet tall and weighs about 170 pounds. She also said in a phone interview that she always has maintained regular contact with her son either on the phone or through email.
She said he wasn't employed at the time of his disappearance.
