MONTCLAIR, NJ — A recent freezing rain coated Montclair in a layer of ice, resulting in fallen trees and tree branches. Here’s how to get rid of them.

On Monday, after a bout of icy weather in the area, Montclair town officials issued an advisory about how to throw out yard detritus, including tree branches.

“When disposing of broken tree parts, please keep in mind that disposal of tree limbs and branches is regulated by Township Ordinance § 292-25,” officials stated.

  • Loose wood, brush, tree limbs and branches shall be cut into three-foot lengths and tied in bundles weighing no more than 25 pounds each.
  • The township defines branches as any tree, bush or shrub parts that is less than three inches in diameter.
  • Branches are limited to three bundles per pickup day.
  • Loose piles of branches will not be collected.
  • Please do not place branches into the street.

Logs, defined as any tree part three inches or larger in diameter, are not collected as vegetative waste or with the normal refuse collection. Residents must make their own arrangements for disposal, officials said.

Yard waste will continue to be collected until Monday, Dec. 30, officials said.
