MONTCLAIR, NJ — A local bakery in Montclair raised more than $2,000 for its local Planned Parenthood as part of an Election Day pop-up bake sale.

Last week, Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan New Jersey offered a big shout-out to the Montclair Bread Company for its fundraiser.

Montclair Bread Company owner Rachel Wyman offered an inspiring recap of the effort. She wrote:

“When I sent you an email on Sunday to notify you of my plans to host an Election Day pop-up bake sale to benefit Planned Parenthood, I really didn't think anyone was going to come. I texted my friends asking them to please show up. I spent all day Monday, from 5 am to 6 pm, baking all of my favorite comfort foods. I kept thinking I would be eating leftovers ALL WEEK.

“But you did come and there wasn't even a crumb leftover. The line stretched around the block. Some of you waited for over an hour to get your chance for a treat. You dropped nearly $500 in our donation jar and your purchases created an additional $1,700 in donations for a total of over $2,200 for Planned Parenthood! The whole NJ Metro PP team came to visit us throughout the day to show their support - they too waited in line.

“Jessica and Haley volunteered their time to come work on what would have been their days off. My friend Katie arrived early yesterday morning to help me make all the doughnuts and she stayed to pack up your orders, pouring hot custard on your apple dumplings and smearing caramel on your bread pudding. My daughter Josie and her friend Ruby learned how to steam milk & filled your beverage orders, heating apple cider, making hot chocolate and preparing your coffee just the way you wanted. They even stayed after our sale ended to help assist me with TWO kids' baking classes! Those girls worked their butts off from 7 am to 7 pm and they're only 12!

“We may not know what the election results will bring but I DO know how incredible this community is and how much support we have to give each other. That's what really matters here and now. We ARE in this together. We can help our neighbors, our friends and our colleagues. Our children are watching and they are following in our footsteps.”

“I am so proud to be a part of this incredible community. I am so proud to call you my friends, my neighbors and my colleagues. I went to sleep last night with a very full heart, grateful for what we have.

“There is always a silver lining. There is always a different perspective. There is always a reason to feel gratitude, no matter how small. Thank you, Montclair! Thank you for showing up!”
