Montclair Company Launches Contest For ‘Pet-Friendly Vacuum’

MONTCLAIR, NJ — In honor of National Dog Day on Wednesday, a Montclair business is looking for someone to test out a new, “pet-friendly” vacuum – and it can net them a cool $250.

According to Designer Appliances – which has a Montclair showroom but launched its online store from a basement in Nutley – the idea behind this contest came after staff members got into a discussion about their dogs’ complicated relationship with vacuums.

“Some of the pups ran away every time the vacuum was pulled out, and others just couldn’t stop playing with it, causing a delay in the cleaning process,” spokespeople said. “After doing some research, we found that, most times, it was the noise coming from the vacuum that spooked the dogs.”

Here’s how the contest works, spokespeople said:

"We’re ‘hiring’ one lucky dog parent to test out the new, pet friendly, Miele Triflex HX1 to see if the vacuum’s low frequency makes life a little easier … In addition to getting a free vacuum (valued at $699), you’ll also get a bonus of $250 to keep for yourself or donate to a local animal charity. In return, the ‘official vacuum tester’ will write a short review of the Triflex HX1 and tell us whether or not it made their dog’s life a little less stressful."

The company’s ideal applicant:

• Has an adorable dog
• Is in the market for a new pet-friendly vacuum cleaner
• Is a U.S. resident 18 or older

How to Apply:

• Take a video of your dog (less than one minute long) while using your current vacuum cleaner. Is he/she afraid of it? Or does your dog like to play with it? Show us your dog’s cutest vacuum showdown!
• Write a 250-word explanation of why your dog deserves a new vacuum friend. How will having a quieter vacuum make your dog’s life easier?
• Fill out the form with all relevant information

Submissions are open until Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. The winner will be announced via email and social media on Sept. 9.
