Montclair Cops Praise Girl's Quick Thinking In Swimming Incident

A 7-year-old girl in Montclair saw her sister struggling to hold her head above water. Here's what she did next, police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Police Department gave a well-deserved nod of appreciation to a 7-year-old girl after she protected her younger sister during a “distressful” swimming incident.

Montclair police offered more details about her heroics in a social media post:

“Ruby realized her younger sister was in distress while swimming, and unable to get above water. Ruby jumped to action without hesitation, bringing her sister’s head above water, then dragging her out of the pool and getting their father. Ruby’s quick and decisive actions are heroic and brave for a person of any age, especially a 7-year-old.”
