Montclair Obituary: Robert Lennon, Football Coach and Local Business Owner
The Immaculate Conception High School graduate was owner of Murph's Sports Shop in Upper Montclair, as well as a local athlete and coach.

Former Montclair resident Robert Lennon passed away on Jan. 30.
The following obituary comes courtesy of Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home:
“Robert (Bobby) Lennon of Lincoln Park, NJ, formerly of Montclair, NJ, passed away on Saturday, January 30th, 2016.

“Bobby was the owner of Murph’s Sports Shop in Upper Montclair.
“Bobby graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1973. He was a four-year varsity starter in both football and baseball, and a two year starter basketball for the Lions. In football, Bobby was named Star Ledger 1st team x All-State Parochial, 1st Team All Big Six Conference, 2nd Team All Essex-Star Ledger, and 2nd team Herald News All Area as a running back in 1972. In baseball, he was named All-Parochial 1st Team. Bobby is also a member of the Immaculate Conceptions Athletic Hall of Fame. He then went on to graduate from Seton Hall University in 1977 where he played football for three years.

“Bobby was also a highly respected football coach. He was an Assistant Football Coach from 1976 through 2004 at Immaculate Conception High School, Bayley Ellard High School and DePaul Catholic High School. He served as Special Team Coordinator and Offensive and Defensive Back Field Coach. Bobby was a proud coach of two New Jersey State Championship Teams in 1976 at Immaculate Conception and in 1992 at DePaul Catholic.
“An avid golfer for his entire life, Bobby was an active member of Deere Run Golf Club. He, also, loved to vacation at the Jersey Shore with his family. Bobby was always known for his great sense of humor and many, always entertaining stories; especially his infamous “Did the Boat Sink?!”
“He was the son of late William and Cecelia Lennon; brother of William, Joseph, John, Marybeth Mullins, Michael and the late Kathleen Riley, and loving uncle of 15 nieces and nephews 13 grandnieces and nephews.
“In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immaculate Conception High School, 33 Cottage Place, Montclair, NJ 07042.”
