Montclair Police Arrest DWI, Shoplifting

Officials investigate assault, residential burglaries and vehicle fires

Montclair police said they arrested two men last week for unrelated shoplifting and driving under the influence cases.

Troy L. Johnson, 46, of Irvington, was arrested for allegedly stealing $30 in hygiene products from the Pathmark store at Lackawanna Plaza.

Jerson Guardano, 20, of West Orange, was arrested Jan. 25 at Cedar Avenue and High Street on charges of driving under the influence.

Police said they are investigating a burglary on Ardsley Road on Jan. 23. The victim reported that someone entered her residence at 10 a.m., when she heard footsteps on the first floor. After yelling out ‘is someone downstairs’ the person ran out of her home and down Ardsley Road. Police said the suspect entered by prying open her back door, but no belongings were taken.

Two other burglaries were reported Jan. 23, one on Montclair Avenue where the suspect entered the residence by breaking the front glass door and take electronics and jewelry. The second incident on Essex involved the suspect entering through a rear door and stealing jewelry.

Theft

A gray backpack and wallet were reported stolen Jan. 21 from an unlocked vehicle on Grove Street.

An Acer laptop was reported stolen on Jan. 21 in a basement burglary on Pine Street.

A woman, described as a white female with thin build and a black jacket reportedly grabbed a large amount of candy bars and baked goods on Jan. 22 from a Quick Check at 146 Valley Road. She fled in a Toyota Camry.

On Jan. 24, $194 in liquor was reported stolen from an unlocked, parked vehicle on Pine Street.

Miscellaneous

On Jan. 20 a scam was reported involving the prepaid GreenDot card. A caller claiming to be from the IRS called and asked that $500 be placed on the card. The redemption code was provided, and the caller requested another card be purchased. A cashier at Pathmark called police.

On Jan. 22, the side window of a Dodge Caravan was smashed on Rydal Place. Nothing was reported stolen.

Montclair Fire Department is investigating a Jan. 21 incident involving an Acura TL with a fire in its engine compartment on Church Street. The department is also investigating a Jan. 24 incident where a utility box truck on Upper Mountain Avenue, had a fire in its engine compartment. No injuries were reported.

On Jan. 25, a 35-year-old Montclair man reported being assaulted by two black males while walking home on South Willow Street at 10:30 p.m. He was punched in the face, receiving minor lacerations.
