Montclair Police Blotter: Arrests, Thefts and Blurgaries
MPD Blotter for Tuesday October 28. Crimes include money stolen from unlocked homes and cars, as well as a theft at the Park St. YMCA.

Arrest
- On Saturday October 25 at 2:45 p.m., Karriem Holliday, 45, from Newark, presented documentation at police headquarters in an attempt to get his vehicle out of impound. Upon reviewing these documents, it was discovered that Holliday had furnished a fraudulent insurance card to the desk officer. Holliday was also found to have $1,500 in open warrants out of Montclair. He was placed under arrest and charged with providing this bail insurance card. His bail was set at $5,000.
- On Monday October 27 at 1:17 a.m., an officer observed a Jeep Cherokee stopped at the red light at Bloomfield Avenue and Maple Avenue. This light turned green, but the vehicle did not move. Upon investigating, the Officer discovered the operator slumped over the steering wheel. It was determined that this operator, Nathan Chappell, 44, from Montclair, was in fact asleep. Officers administered field sobriety testing and placed Chappell under arrest for DWI.
Theft
- On Sunday October 19 at 8:23 p.m., CVS Pharmacy (514 Bloomfield Avenue) reported a shoplifting, which had just occurred. Management explained that a male subject had just concealed 4 bottles of shampoo on his person, and left without paying. The suspect is described as a white male, mid-40’s, 5’10 in height, with a thin build. This subject was wearing a black hat with white lettering, gray jacket, and blue jeans. - On Saturday October 18, an unlocked vehicle was entered in the area of North Fullerton Avenue and Walnut Street. This vehicle, a silver Mazda-3, was entered between 7:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Saturday the 18. Stolen in this incident was an orange coach brand wallet containing $20 cash. - On Wednesday October 22 at 5:00 p.m., a delivery package was stolen off a front porch on Sears Place. A witness observed a 20-30-year-old black male, wearing dark clothing and a brown cap, take the package. This suspect then fled on foot, southeast on Sears place. The contents of the package are valued at $70. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant J. Milano at 973-509-4719.
- On Sunday October 26, a Park Street YMCA member reported that they were the victim of a theft. Between 11:50 a.m and 1:00 p.m., someone had stolen his iPhone 5c in a black/orange case from an unlocked cubby. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.
Burglary
- On Monday October 20, a Portland Place resident reported a burglary to their residence. The victim explained that between 10:30 a.m. on Sunday October 19 and 8:45 a.m. on Monday October 20, someone had possibly entered the residence through an unlocked rear door. Stolen in this incident was a wallet and cellphone. There were no signs of forced entry to the structure. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective C. Cunningham at 973-509-4716.
- On Monday October 20, a Walnut Place resident reported a burglary to their residence. The victim explained that between 6:00 p.m. on Saturday October 18 and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday October 20, someone had entered the residence through an unlocked window. Stolen in this incident were $60 cash and a pair of silver hoop earrings. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective T. Turner at 973-509-4724.
- On Friday October 24 at 8:23 p.m., a North Mountain resident contacted dispatch reporting that their home was being burglarized. The caller added that he was currently watching the burglary take place via remote surveillance. Officers arrived on scene within moments, but the suspects had already fled the scene. A search of the surrounding area was conducted, including the use of the Essex County Sheriffs K-9 Unit, to no avail It is yet unknown is anything was taken in this incident. - On Saturday October 25 a Macopin Avenue resident reported a burglary to their residence. The victim explained that between 1:45 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., someone had smashed through their front entrance door, causing damage to the frame. The master bedroom had been ransacked, but it is unknown if anything was taken at that time. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective D. Rullo at 973-509-4717.
Miscellaneous
- On Saturday October 25 at 8:17 p.m., a Lincoln Street resident was the victim of vandalism. The victim heard a loud noise come from his living room, discovering that a rock had been thrown through this front window. The victim observed a teenaged male in a gray sweatshirt running away from his property. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.
- On Monday October 27 at 3:00 a.m., officers located a parked vehicle in the area of Pine Street, which was reported stolen in the city of Newark. The vehicle, a Black Toyota Camry was impounded, awaiting retrieval by its owner.
