Montclair Police Blotter: Multiple Arrests and More

Police blotter for Tuesday October 21.

Arrest

  • On Thursday October 9, detectives from the Juvenile Aid Bureau took a report of the theft of numerous cellular telephones and cash (Total loss approx. $2,600) from the Montclair High School locker room. On Wednesday October 15, Juvenile Aid Bureau detectives arrested two 15-year-old Montclair juveniles in connection with these thefts. Detectives were successful in recovering all of the cellular telephones reported stolen in this incident. The juveniles were charged with Burglary and Theft offenses.
  • On Wednesday October 15, the CVS Pharmacy located 49 Claremont Avenue, reported a shoplifting that had just occurred. Officers observed a female matching the suspect description walking on Pine Street. Charade Jenkins, 49, from Montclair, was found in possession of proceeds from that shoplifting totaling $117.40. Jenkins was arrested and charged with shoplifting.
  • On Wednesday October 15, detectives from the Juvenile Aid Bureau arrested a 17-year-old Montclair juvenile for burglary. This arrest was a result of their investigation into recent thefts from motor vehicles. This juvenile was charged with Theft and Receiving Stolen Property.
  • On Tuesday October 14 at 12:51 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a Park Street address on an activated burglar alarm. Upon arriving, this officer observed a subject, carrying a bag, walking quickly away from this residence. This officer approached, and attempted to question this subject, later identified as Duane Green, 42, from Montclair. At that time, Green fled on foot, southbound on Park Street. The officer pursued Green, who was caught on the train tracks in the area of North Fullerton Avenue. Green resisted officers while they attempted to apply handcuffs. Green was found to have just burglarized the home on Park Street. He was discovered to have proceeds from the crime in his possession, including cash and a Toshiba Laptop. He was charged with Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, Obstruction, and Resisting Arrest. He was also held on a warrant out of Burlington for $1,000. Bail was set at $10,000 for his Montclair charges.
  • On Sunday October 19 at 5:14 a.m., officers were dispatched to 264 Bloomfield Avenue, Exxon Gas Station, on a report of theft of services. The suspects, Karriem Holliday, 45, Newark, and Thomas Milazzo, 47, from Paramus, requested that the attendant fill their Acura TSX with gas. Upon filling the vehicle with $50 worth of gas, the subjects stated that they did not have any money to pay. Milazzo was found to have an open no-bail warrant out of Bergen County Sheriffs. The vehicle was also discovered to be uninsured. Both suspects were arrested and charged with Theft of Services.

Bicycle

  • On Wednesday October 15 at 10:23 p.m., officers recovered a bicycle on Maple Avenue. The bicycle is described as an Orange mongoose bedlam Mountain bike with white forks. This bicycle was not registered with the town. It was not yet reported stolen. Anyone with ownership information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.
  • On Saturday October 18, at 4:25 p.m., officers responded to Lloyd Road on a report of a stolen bicycle. The victim explained that between 4:00 p.m. on Friday October 17 and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday October 18, someone had entered the detached garage and stolen a bicycle. The bicycle is described as a light blue women’s Linus brand. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.

Theft from Motor Vehicle

  • On Monday October 13 at 2:12 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a Bloomfield Avenue on the Glen Ridge border for an attempted theft from a motor vehicle. The victim stated that between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., someone had attempted to enter her GMC Acadia, causing damage to the window molding.   • On Saturday October 18, between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., an unlocked Toyota 4Runner parked on Woodland Avenue was entered. Taken in this incident was a purse containing a black Coach brand wallet. The purse was later located in a garbage can on Monroe Street. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.

Miscellaneous

  • On Thursday October 16 at 9:15 a.m., an officer responded to 694 Bloomfield Avenue, Eastern Oil, on a strong odor of gasoline. Upon arriving, officers learned that a tanker truck, which was filling the underground tanks at that location, had released approximately 20-30 gallons of fuel onto the ground. MFD was notified and responded to the scene. Nutley Haz-Mat was also notified and responded. The Environmental Protection Agency was notified and will be investigating this spill.
  • On Thursday October 16, a Midland Avenue resident received a call from a party claiming to represent the IRS. This suspect advised the victim that they were responsible for back-taxes. The victim was instructed to purchase GreenDot Money Pack cards totaling $990, and furnish the caller with their redemption codes. The victim contacted her accountant prior to making this transaction and was advised that this was a scam.
