Montclair Police To Host Free Fishing Derby For Kids

Montclair police officers and law enforcement boosters will host a free fishing derby at Edgemont Memorial Park for local youth on July 14.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair police officers and law enforcement boosters will host a free fishing derby at Edgemont Memorial Park for local youth on Saturday, July 14.

According to a municipal news release, the event is open to children “ages K through 8” and will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. (Learn more here)

“The pond will be stocked with over 300 types of fish. A limited number of loaner fishing poles will be available for youth wanting to cast off for the first time. Bait will be provided but feel free to bring your own.”

Parents can register children online at www.montclairpal.org or on site at Edgemont Park from 8 to 9 a.m. The casting competition starts at 9 a.m. and the fishing derby will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration and adult supervision is mandatory for all participants. Prizes will be awarded for the farthest cast, first fish hooked, the most fish hooked and biggest fish hooked.

The free Fishing Derby is made possible through the support of the Montclair Police Athletic League (MPAL), Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local #53, Montclair Anglers Association and the Montclair Police Foundation.
