Montclair Police Investigate String Of Thefts

Ten thefts were reported over seven days.

 

Montclair Police are investigating a string of 10 thefts that occurred the week of Sept. 23, many involving cars that had been left unlocked.

In one case, on Sept. 23, a Rutherford resident told police that someone had taken $500 in cash from the glove box of her 2011 Mercedes Benz parked on the second floor of the Mountainside Hospital parking lot.

In another case, on Sept. 25, a resident on Carteret Street told police that a GPS unit had been taken from his 2006 Nissan Altima, left unlocked overnight.

Various items including radios and phones also were taken from cars left unlocked on Valley Road, Gates Avenue, and Alexander Avenue, among other locations.

In addition:

—A resident on Willowdale Avenue reported a bike stolen from the back porch on Sept. 26. 

—The same day, a resident on Gates Avenue reported two bikes stolen from an enclosed unlocked porch.

—On Sept. 30, a resident on Glenridge Avenue said someone had shattered the back window of their jeep with a rock and stolen a Garmin GPS unit. 

—Finally, on Sept. 25, a Central Avenue resident told police that two five-gallon bottles of Poland Spring water that had been delivered had been stolen from his front porch.
