Montclair Residents Evacuated From Apartment Building Fire
Montclair firefighters got an assist from their peers in West Orange, Clifton, Bloomfield, East Orange, Orange, Verona and Cedar Grove.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Authorities evacuated an apartment building on Mission Street in Montclair after a two-alarm fire broke out Wednesday night.
According to the Montclair Fire Department, it received a call at 6:27 p.m. from tenants about smoke in their apartment.
After arriving at the scene, firefighters discovered that the blaze was located on the first floor, but it had made its way into the floor and wall voids and spread to the other floors.

Firefighters helped residents to evacuate the building, then extinguished the flames on all three floors.
No firefighters or residents were injured, authorities said.

The blaze caused heavy fire, smoke and water damage throughout the building, authorities said.
Units from West Orange, Clifton, Bloomfield and East Orange helped to bring the fire under control, while units from Orange, Verona and Cedar Grove covered the township for the duration of the incident.
The last unit cleared the scene at 9:16 p.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Montclair fire officials said Thursday.
