Montclair’s Nia Gill Seeks Re-Election To Senate In NJ-34

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A veteran lawmaker from Montclair is seeking re-election to the state Senate in New Jersey’s 34th district.

Sen. Nia Gill has served in her current post since 2002, and previously served in the New Jersey Assembly. She will once again seek the Democratic Party nomination in the district, which includes Clifton, East Orange, Montclair and Orange.

No other candidate filed to run against Gill for the Democratic nomination in June’s primary election. Another Montclair resident, Scott Pollack, has filed to run for the Republican nomination.

"The biggest problem the 34th district faces is the burden of high property taxes. This is a result of our school funding formula not being fully funded increasing the burden on municipalities. As Senator, I plan to continue to advocate for the full funding of all our school districts in Trenton."

What's something about the district and/or its towns that always makes you smile?

"The diversity of this district always makes me smile. People from dozens of countries and every walk of life call this community home and that fosters a community that celebrates uniqueness while coming together in solidarity."
