Montclair Shelter Steps Up To Plate For Hurricane-Displaced Dogs
"We are Montclair and we will do everything in our power to assist animals needing to evacuate a hurricane flood zone."

MONTCLAIR, NJ — “We are Montclair and we will do everything in our power to assist animals needing to evacuate a hurricane flood zone.”
This was the message from the Montclair Animal Shelter on Tuesday as it accepted a pressing challenge: find new homes for several dogs evacuated from the wrath of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.
The storm – which struck over the Labor Day holiday – left catastrophic damage as it slowly crawled toward the U.S. Eastern Seaboard.

The Montclair Animal Shelter was asked to help evacuate dogs from Marion County in South Carolina, and immediately stepped up to the plate, staff reported.

“The first round of evacuees has landed in town thanks to the financial support of Friend of The Montclair Township Animal Shelter (FOMTAS),” the shelter wrote Tuesday. “If you are considering adopting a pet, please come by the shelter and open your heart and home to an evacuee.”
For those who can’t adopt, donations are being accepted at the FOMTAS website.
The Montclair Animal Shelter is open daily from 1 to 4 p.m., with a late day of 1 to 7 p.m. on Thursday. The shelter is located at 77 North Willow Street, and can be reached at 973-744-8600 or mtas@montclairnj.org.
