Montclair's economic engine seems to be roaring ahead, with at least three new businesses opening up around town.
—A new hair salon for children called Pigtails & Crewcuts will open in the former Blockbuster spot (next to the Subway and CVC Pharmacy) at 49 Claremont Avenue in Montclair. According to the business' website, Pigtails & Crewcuts—which has locations across the country—offers a wide range of child-friendly products and services and also hosts parties for kids. The space has been vacant since Blockbuster closed in late April.

—Purrs and Paws, a new pet shop working with area animal rescue agencies, opened Sept. 15 at 547 Valley Road in Upper Montclair. The location formerly housed Well Feathered Nest, a home and gift boutique for people and pets that closed in May after being open only six months. Purrs and Paws is located almost directly across the street from Iggy's Place, a pet store struggling to stay open at 540 Valley Road. But the two establishments are very different. Although the owners say both will sell pet food and toys, Purrs and Paws will feature pet photography by Beth Burstein.
—Boone Studio, which will offer an innovative mix of classes, will open at 40 Church Street in Montclair on Oct. 1. An open house witth free classes will take place from Oct. 1 to Oct. 14 with a grand opening party scheduled on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For adults, Boone will offer Barre, Vbarre, Barre Yoga, Hot Barre Yoga, Barre 85°,Vinyasa Yoga, Hot Vinayasa, willPower infusion ®,Hot Niguma Vinyasa ®, and Mat Pilates. For kids, Boone will offer yoga, ballet, and creative movement.
