Montclair Township Animal Shelter (MTAS) announced that it will join with NBC 4 New York/WNBC and Telemundo 47/WNJU to host NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations’ Clear the Shelters fourth annual nationwide pet adoption drive on Saturday, August 18, and offer a bonus day on Sunday, August 19.
On these days, MTAS will offer waived pet adoption fees for animals one year and older as part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters initiative that seeks to help families find and adopt homeless pets. Fees for all animals over one year old will be paid by the Friends of the Montclair Township Animal Shelter (FOMTAS). Since 2015, Clear the Shelters has resulted in more than 150,000 pet adoptions nationwide. This year, the adoption initiative will include the participation of more than 80 local animal shelters and rescues from across the tri-state region.

“We are looking forward to participating in Clear the Shelters again this year, and are excited to offer a second ‘bonus day’ when we hope to be able to find homes for even more animals,” says Liz Morgan, Director of MTAS. “Summer is a very difficult time of year for us, as so many animals are abandoned when owners move or go on vacation, and for those same reasons – moving and vacations – a lot of people may not be able to adopt. We hope that having Clear the Shelters for two days this year will help us to find homes for literally dozens of animals.”
“This is the time of year that shelters and rescues need help the most. Many are filled to capacity with homeless pets in need of a loving home. The WNBC team is passionate about making a difference and on August 18, we look forward to clearing the shelters across the Tri-State region,” said Eric Lerner, President and General Manager of NBC 4 New York.
