Montclair has rescinded a state of emergency due to a winter storm. Here's what it means for travel and parking.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Buckle up, Montclair. The winter of 2021 isn’t done with the township, yet.

The recent turn of weather comes after multiple storms in the past weeks, which have dumped snow across the area.

In Montclair, local officials declared a state of emergency that took effect at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

“Township Emergency Management Coordinator Rob Bianco has declared a state of emergency to go into effect at 9 a.m. [Thursday], to support the removal of snow and any emergencies caused by the snow. Nonessential travel and on-street parking will be prohibited for all vehicles for the duration of the state of emergency. Residents are reminded that parking on snow-covered streets is prohibited by ordinance 327-25. The no-parking prohibition remains in effect for a period of 12 hours after the snowfall has stopped in order to facilitate snow removal operations. Police will be ticketing and towing vehicles parked on the streets during this period.”

Montclair officials continued:

“Residents may park their vehicles free of charge in municipal lots and decks from 6 a.m. [Thursday] until the streets have been cleared of snow. A notice will go out to provide vehicle owners a six-hour window for removing their vehicles from the lots and decks, once the streets have been cleared.”

Trash and recycling collection was suspended for Thursday, Feb. 18.

The local state of emergency was rescinded on Friday, Montclair officials said.

"Vehicle owners without permits will have until 6:30 p.m. today to remove their vehicles from municipal parking lots and decks," officials stated. "The 6:30 p.m. deadline will be enforced so that snow removal crews can clear the lots and decks."

Here’s the latest forecast for Montclair, according to the National Weather Service:

Thursday - Snow. High near 27. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northeast wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Thursday Night - Snow. Low around 25. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday - Snow, mainly before 4pm. High near 33. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Northeast wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Friday Night - A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before 10pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 25. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph.

Saturday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 34. Northwest wind 8 to 15 mph.

Saturday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 18.

Sunday - Sunny, with a high near 34.

Sunday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 22.
