Montclair Woman Named 2018 ‘Working Mother Of The Year’
A Montclair mother of two earned some big kudos for balancing her workload as a corporate attorney with the demands of running a household.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Montclair woman has been named as a 2018 "Working Mother of the Year" by Working Mother Magazine.
Melinda Feeney, an assistant general counsel at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, was honored with a designation in the magazine’s “Rising Star” category, which honors up-and-coming working moms who have made an impact on their organization after fewer than five years on the job.
Feeney joined the company in 2015, according to Horizon BCBSNJ.

According to a statement from Horizon:
“Throughout her career, Ms. Feeney has served as a focused and optimistic contributor to her business partners. During her first three years at Horizon BSBSNJ, Ms. Feeney strategically and successfully managed Horizon’s labor and employment counseling and litigation matters. More recently, to further develop and enhance her skills, Ms. Feeney has assumed new responsibilities in vendor contracting. Her expertise, business acumen, upbeat personality and practical approach in addressing problems exemplifies the excellence Horizon BCBSNJ strives for in delivering quality health insurance products and services to New Jersey families and businesses.

“Despite balancing the workload of a corporate attorney with the life demands of a mother of two young children, Melinda always maintains a can-do spirit and a drive for professional excellence,” said Alison Banks-Moore, Chief Diversity Officer for Horizon BCBSNJ. “Horizon offers family-friendly policies and programs that help our employees maintain a healthy home/work balance. “Ms. Feeney holds a bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University and a Juris Doctorate from Rutgers University School of Law. She enjoys public speaking and has served on working panels to share her professional insights.
“While in private practice at a law firm, she was recognized as a Rising Star honoree by Super Lawyers Magazine. Ms. Feeney lives in Montclair with her husband Thomas and daughters Nora (4) and Elizabeth (1).”
