MPD Blotter: Arrests, Burglaries and Continued Vehicle Theft

Montclair Police blotter for Tuesday September 30.

Arrest

  • On Monday September 29 at 2:04 a.m., officers assigned to the Mission Street post observed a large disturbance mid-block in the center of the street. Upon responding, they located approximately eight individuals huddled around two males who were physically fighting. One of the males who was fighting was identified as Justin Davis (18yoa from Montclair), disregarded Officers orders. He continued to act in a combative and aggressive manner. Davis was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct.
  • On Monday September 29 at 7:38 a.m., Officers were dispatched to Warren Place on a report of a suspicious male walking through the rear yards of homes. Arriving Officers observed this suspect, James Aguiar (23 yoa from Montclair) walking on Warren Place. After conducting a canvass of the neighborhood, numerous witnesses observed Aguiar walking through the rear properties of homes in the area. It was discovered that Aguiar had rummaged through at least one vehicle in the neighborhood, ripping open parcels, which were on the rear seat. Aguiar was placed under arrest and charged with burglary and theft. He was held on $7,500 bail.

Burglary

  • On Tuesday September 23, a Yantacaw Brook Road resident reported the theft of jewelry. The items stolen included an 18k gold Patek Philippe bracelet watch, valued at $38,000. The jewelry was last seen on Labor Day 2014. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective J. Anderson at 973-509-4706
  • On Friday September 26, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Valley Road, near Church Street, on a report of a burglary. The victim stated that when she returned home on Wednesday September 24, she observed the rear door ajar. It appears that a radio/CD player was stolen from the residence in this incident. On Friday September 26 at 9:00 p.m, the victim observed that the window in the rear door of the residence had been smashed. The actor(s) were unable to gain access to the residence in this incident. Theft From a Vehicle

  • On Wednesday September 24, Officers were dispatched to Chester Road on a report of an attempted theft from a vehicle. The victim stated that at 3:18 a.m., he observed a subject looking into his vehicle. The suspect is described as a short male wearing a baseball cap. It did not appear that anything was taken in this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.
  • On Wednesday September 24 a Cedar Grove resident reported a theft from their vehicle in the area of Union Street near Elm Street. Between 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., someone entered their Nissan Xterra, and stole a black backpack and wallet. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.
  • On Thursday September 25, Officers were dispatched to Tuxedo Road on a report of a theft from a vehicle. The witness stated that at 1:27 a.m., they observed a subject leaning into a vehicle in a driveway. The suspect is described as a medium build male, approximately 5’9” in height, wearing a dark sweatshirt. $20 in loose change was stolen from this vehicle.   • On Monday September 29, officers were dispatched to Gardiner Place on a report of theft from a motor vehicle. The victim stated that between 5:45 p.m. on Sunday September 28 and 8:00 a.m. on Monday September 29, someone had entered their Jeep Grand Cherokee. $4.00 in quarters was stolen from the center console of this vehicle.   • On Monday September 29 at 8:47 a.m., while investigating a separate motor vehicle break-in on Gardiner Place, officers observed a Subaru Legacy with its doors ajar. Upon locating the owner of this vehicle, it was determined that it too had been entered. The contents of the vehicle had been rummaged through, but it did not appear that anything was taken.

Theft

  • On Wednesday September 24, a Bloomfield Avenue resident reported the theft of a bicycle from the basement of their apartment building. This bicycle was last seen on Monday September 15. The bicycle is described as a blue women’s 10-speed bicycle. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.
