Multiple Arrests, Robbery, Theft and A Recovered Bicycle in Montclair

Arrest

  • Detectives arrested a 17 year-old Montclair juvenile on Monday Oct. 27, in connection with thefts from motor vehicles, which have been occurring in the township. The detectives were successful in locating personal documents belonging to one of the victims of these thefts. These documents were returned to their owner. The juvenile was charged with Receiving Stolen Property.
  • Witnesses in the area of Valley Road and Northview Avenue reported a suspicious male trying door handles on parked vehicles, on Monday Oct. 27 at 8:00 p.m. Officers located this male on Valley Road at Valley Place. The suspect, Jack Zwerver, 51, from Pompton Plains was found holding documents, which he had just stolen out of one of the parked vehicles in the area. Zwerver was charged with Burglary.
  • Jeremy Lavado, 20, from West Orange, was arrested on two open warrants out of West Orange totaling $1,250. Lavado was arrested on Tuesday Oct. 28 at 8:02 p.m. as officers conducted a motor vehicle stop, on a black 2-Door Scion on Elm Street at Bloomfield Avenue. Lavado was the registered owner of this vehicle.
  • Kevin Bless, 21, from Edgewater was arrested at the Wellmont Theater on Thursday, October 30 at 11:19 p.m.Officers working crowd control at the theater encountered Bless, who had been denied access to the theater, due to his intoxicated state. He was acting in a disorderly manner and arguing with the event staff. When officers asked Bless to leave the location, he became irate, screaming and cursing, causing alarm to the other patrons present. After ignoring multiple requests, Bless was placed under arrest. During his arrest, Bless resisted Officers efforts to handcuff him. He was charged with Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Persons.

Theft

  • A resident reported their cell phone stolen from the Park St. YMCA, on Monday Oct. 27. The victim explained that at 6:00 p.m., they plugged the phone into an outlet in the gym, to allow it to charge and moments later it was gone.   • A 2011 Gray Infinity G37 was stolen from the parking lot of St James Church located at 595 Valley Road on Monday October 27. The vehicle was stolen between 6:50 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective C. Cunningham at 973-509-4716.

Burglary

  • A Virginia Avenue resident reported that they were the victims of a burglary, on Monday Oct. 27. The victim explained that when they returned home, they found their rear door ajar. A Sharp 40” television, Samsung 32” television, Xbox, Dell laptop computer, and various items of jewelry were all reported stolen. The suspect gained entry to the home by pushing in a window air conditioner. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective T. Turner at 973-509-4724.
  • Officers were dispatched to Mt. Hebron Cemetery on Sunday Nov. 2, on a report of a recent burglary. Management directed the officers to a garage, which had damage to one of its main doors. The suspects had kicked in one of the panels on the garage door to gain access to the structure. It is unknown if anything is missing at this time. Robbery

  • Three juvenile females reported that they were the victims of a strong-arm robbery. They were trick-or-treating in the area of Chestnut Street and North Fullerton Avenue on Friday October 31 at 9:40 p.m. They explained that four or five juvenile males approached them and demanded that they empty their pockets. One of the suspects gestured that he was in possession of a firearm. Another suspect placed one of the victims in a headlock while searching her pockets. Taken in this incident was an iPhone 5c. The suspects are described as juvenile black males in hooded sweatshirts and jeans. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.

Bicycle

  • A bicycle was recovered in the area of North Fullerton at Claremont Avenue, on Tuesday Oct. 28. The bicycle in question is described as a children’s purple Trek Mystic, with training wheels. Anyone with ownership information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.
