Newsweek Releases List Of America's Top High Schools
See which Essex County schools made the list.

The always talked about Newsweek best public high schools in the country list is out, and Millburn ranked No. 83, the highest ranked open enrollment high in the state, coming in behind three magnet or selective high schools.
Montclair High School was not on the list.

It is the best ranking Millburn has achieved in several years, having come in , , and 151th in 2008. , Millburn did not participate in Newsweek's survey and therefore did not make the rankings.
For comparison sake, other nearby open enrollment high schools ranked accordingly: Chatham at No. 183, Summit at No. 251, Livingston at No. 253, Glen Ridge at No. 255 and Madison at No. 276.

And those acclaimed NYC schools, Bronx Science and Stuyvesant, both selective schools, ranked 50th and 66th respectively.
According to the magazine, “this year’s ranking highlights the best 1,000 public high schools in the nation—the ones that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads. The list is based on six components provided by school administrators: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered per student (5 percent).
