NJASK Scores Are Delayed

But planning in the school district is continuing despite the delay.

Measurement Inc., the company responsible for distribution and scoring of the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge 3-8, has announced that delivery of reports of the scores will be delayed.

The company said that the delay is due to necessary revisions to Language Arts scores for grades 3 through 5. Measurement Inc. further announced that Individual Student Reports would arrive in New Jersey school districts no later than September 24, 2010.

Last year, school districts received results by mid-August.

Felice Harrison, a spokeswoman for the Montclair Public School District, said that the district understands how vital this information is as school officials plan how best they will teach students this coming year. As a result, she said that the Montclair Public School District will make every effort to provide schools and parents with the revised information as soon as it becomes available.

So what does this mean exactly? "It means that the district may 'tweak' some of the goals, objectives, and actions to correct the areas needing improvement" after it receives the scores, Harrison said.

"But planning is underway," she said.

Under federal legislation, every state is required to administer annual standards-based assessment of all children in grades 3 through 8. All New Jersey third and fourth grade students took the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge for the first time in May 2003.
