Then, Beckett and Marion Clarke, 25, of Montclair, both were told to leave the person's property. As Beckett and Clarke walked away, they became belligerent and yelled at the police officers. They then began yelling at tenants on a nearby balcony and began to loiter in the area. Again,, they were told to leave the area after Beckett continued to yell and curse in the street.

Both began walking south on Pine Street, but again turned around and began to return to the incident location. Both Beckett and Clarke were placed under arrest. While being handcuffed, Beckett told one of the officers, "If I see you on the street, I'm going to f... you up." Police charged Beckett with disorderly conduct and terroristic threats. He was also found to have warrants out of Montclair, with bail set at $1000, Newark (with bail set at $1000), and Passaic (with bail set at $750).
