Parents Who Rock Hosts Full Day Of Music; Raises Money For Children In Need

Alma Schneider's group Parents Who Rock hosted a full day of music and other activities for families across Montclair.

Parents Who Rock — a group of musicians and others who volunteer their time and talents onstage and behind the scenes to raise money for non-profit organizations — held a full slate of music and family activities on Saturday afternoon to help raise money for Youth Consultation Service.

Youth Consultation Service is a New Jersey non-profit that provides help to anywhere from 1,600 to 3,000 vulnerable children in the state each month.

In particular, Parents Who Rock was raising money for the YCS Birthday Club, a project that raises money so that needy children might receive a birthday gift card of $30.

"It breaks your heart when you see kids without even a birthday gift," said Alan Schwartz, a YCS volunteer. "When I look at my own kids and see all they have and then look at these other kids who have nothing, it really moves me and I have to do something."

Alma Schneider, founder of Parents Who Rock, said that the event raised more than $2,000, enough to benefit almost 70 kids.

There's still time to donate to the YCS Birthday Club. If anyone would like to do so, please go here.

On Saturday, September 25, YCS will host an All-In For The Kids: A Texas Hold'em Tournament with proceeds going to benefit the children in the care of YCS. The event will be at Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 67 Church Street in Montclair from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Saturday's Parents Who Rock event attracted dozens of families who were treated to a full day of music from musical groups made up of parents from around the community.

In addition, there were craft tables for children as well as a jewelry stall set up by Haitian-born artist Marie Saint Victor Koch, a maker of custom-beaded jewelry pieces.
