Police Blotter: Keep Your Cars Locked!

Police report a spate of car-related thefts and vandalism incidents.

       Cars, cars, and more cars. Police reported a spate of car-related incidents in the last few days. Here is the latest Police Blotter just in from Lt. Scott Buehler of the Montclair Police Department:

Vandalism to a Car

      On Wednesday, August 4 at approximately 11:45 a.m., police responded to Bloomfield Avenue on a report of a vandalism to a car. The complainant stated that she parked her Nissan Sentra in the area on Tuesday, August 3 at approximately 11 p.m. When she returned to the car on Wednesday at approximately 11:45 a.m., she noticed that the car's rear license plate was bent and the plate holder had been broken. The damage to the vehicle appears to have been done maliciously rather than an attempt to steal the plate. There are no suspects at this time.

Theft from a Car

            On Thursday, August 5 at approximately 7:30 a.m., police were dispatched to Montclair Avenue on a report of a theft from a car. The victim stated that he parked his Chevy TrailBlazer in a driveway on Wednesday, August 4 at approximately 10:30 p.m. When he returned to the car the following morning at approximately 7:30 a.m., he noticed that the driver's side door was slightly ajar. The car had been left unlocked prior to the theft. A laptop computer valued at $1500, a Blackberry cell phone valued at $300, a Samsung cell phone valued at $300, and an HP calculator valued at $20 were stolen from the car. Vandalism

            On Thursday, August 5 at approximately 3:30 p.m., police responded to the Clary Anderson Arena on a report of vandalism. The vandalism, which consisted of the words "Blue Moon" spray painted in black and blue, is believed to have been done sometime between 6 p.m. on August 4 and 7 a.m. on August 5. The graffiti was found on the eastern facing wall on the southern end of the property. There are no suspects at this time.

Theft from a Car

            On Thursday, August 5 at approximately 7:30 p.m., police received a report of a theft from a car that occurred in the area of South Fullerton Avenue and Union Street. The victim stated that she parked her Ford Explorer in that are on Thursday at approximately 11 a.m. When she returned to the car that night at approximately 6:30 p.m., she noticed that the glass from the car's two side view mirrors was missing. There are no suspects at this time.
