'Refill Store' In Montclair Will Help Shoppers Go Low-Waste

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Have a passion for “low-waste living?” A business that is pioneering the “refill” concept in New Jersey is setting up a new shop in Montclair.

Good Bottle Refill Shop will be opening a store at 179 Glenridge Avenue in Montclair, with a soft opening scheduled for Wednesday, March 24 to Sunday, March 28 (by appointment only). After that, the Montclair store will officially open on Friday, April 2.

The hours in Montclair will be similar to the company’s other store in Maplewood.

Just like in Maplewood, Montclair shoppers will be able to fill their own containers with a range of goods, drastically cutting down on the amount of garbage they create and single-use plastics they consume. Available items include soaps, laundry detergent, cleaning products and bath/body products.

The company’s philosophy is captured in a recent social media post:

“Allllll those bottles...most end up in a landfill and it lives forever... but not if you refill the same bottle over and over. All you need is the product not the packaging. This was my realization a couple years ago when I was at target with my cart full of plastic bottles and single use paper products.... so happy we made the switch to a low-waste life.”

Montclair Center gave founder Deanna Taylor-Heacock a warm welcome on Tuesday:

“The good bottle refill shop combines Deanna’s years of retail experience and her passion for low-waste living into a unique shopping experience. They encourage you to bring your own containers for the products you want to refill. They also have an assortment of bottles and jars available for purchase that you can fill. Ask about curbside pickup!”

The business also delivers to several nearby North Jersey towns, including South Orange, Irvington, West Orange, Union and Millburn/Short Hills. It also offers limited delivery to Morristown, Chatham, Madison, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, Summit, Springfield, Jersey City and Hoboken.
